The picture of the flower that was shown was of a single white, with a boss of red stamens. From research I have done it would appear there are several forms varying from white to pink.
It's distribution in China is in the Provinces of Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Hunan, Guangxi.
It is said to flower from December to April, flowers having 5 to 6 petals and being 5 to 6 cm diameter. The leaves are oblong-elliptic, to oblanceolate-elliptic, dark green, and slightly shiny, 5 to 10 cm long and 2 to 3.5 cm wide. They are thin and leathery. It makes large seed capsules 4 to 5cm in diameter.
It makes an open branched shrub or small tree to 7 metres.
Various introductions are attributed to different people, at differnet given dates, but the C. pitardii var. pitardii does not appear to be given one. I am not certain as to which mine is, as it was sold as C. pitardii. |
