Used extensively by Landscapers for it's charming white flowers with their compelling fragrance. It has small double lobbed black berries favored by many birds.
The birds in turn excrete seeds in their poop planting it in previously undisturbed native hardwood forest. There it climbs high into the canopy of mature forest completely enshrouding native vegetation and reducing native plant diversity. This includes rare scrub habitat.
Although it's touted as Brazilian, it's actually from Africa and was introduced by Portugese Explorers.
