I purchased a 4' tall speciman in NW Arkansas in 2004. I planted it on the SE side of a 100 year old pecan tree where it receives afternoon shade from the punishing Texas sun. As of the spring new growth in 2011 it was 11' tall. Average growth here in Dallas, Texas has been about 8" per year. This summer has been a very hard summer with 67 days of 100 degree heat. I did loose about three smaller branches that simply turned brown and dropped their needles. This cultivar being a dwarf seems to take the heat better than others. I also have Fat Albert which has done well through this horrible summer.

These trees require deep waterings. Especially if you are in zone 8 and below. My two trees were doing good until I went on vacation. If it's their first year, give plenty of water, otherwise these guys will do very bad.
