Two different tourists have advised me that they are growing this cultivar outside well into central Canada. The coloring is deep emrald green with purple tips during the winter months if in the greenhouse with April, May and June peak color outside. It will turn chartrouse to pale green during very hot and dry periods of summer. It was the only hen and chick plant that both of my grandmothers and neighbors grew in the old 100 pound nail kegs circa 1940-50. They cut one inch holes all over these kegs and placed a plant in each hole as well as letting them grow in mats in the top. This plant is probably the most hardy and one of the most prolific of the tectorums. It will do perfectly well in any top soil without additional fertilization. It will do well also from slightly acid-neutral-to slightly alkaline soil.
