Primarily marketed here as container plants, these perennials are fully hardy in the garden in my zone. They stay quite short and though they run around a bit on their fleshy roots, this is quite easy to contain. The accepted method of increase is division of the roots, but they dislike root disturbance, so this must be done with care.

Here in zone 8, in the sun, they bloom steadily until frost. Container grown plants, planted in bloom into the open ground at the end of April, continued to bloom without flinching, though the weather was terrible for the next two and a half months.

Others planted in fall are only now (July) beginning to bloom.
