This species is one of the African Pachypodiums, and reportedly is a bit more tender than P saundersii, which some lump into the same species but separate supspecies, though most recently seem to list it as a separate species completely. P lealii is a taller plant, with soft, somewhat fuzzy feeling leaves and a roughish trunk/stem... while P saundersii has a smoother stem, a squatter overall shape, and the leaves tend to be shiny. I have both plants and though both grow well for me in pots, I have not tried this one in the ground in So Cal... the other has rotted for me in wet winters, so I am trying it again... this one I'll keep in a pot.
