This fascinating little mistletoe is unusual because it parasitises mainly other mistletoes. In Victoria it almost only grows on the Long-flower Mistletoe 'Dendrophthoe vitellina', which grows mainly on Angophora trees. So we have a parasite growing on a parasite.

One site I found speculates that:
"It would be possible to find a mistletoe on a mistletoe on another mistletoe on a santalaceae root parasite on a host. Consider the following: The mistletoe viscum articulatum is a Loranthaceous and Notothixos parasite, but the mistletoe Notothixos subaureus is also a Loranthaceous parasite on such genera as Amyema, Dendrophthoe and Muellerina; however Amyema miraculosum may parasitise the root parasite Santalatum lanceolatum or even another Amyema."
