Tender perennial with grey hairy stems and leaves. Leaves are divided into 5 obovate leaflets, the upper 3 separated from the lower 2 by a short stem.

Chocolate brown/purple pea like flowers with yellow streaks on the standard petals, flower heads usually hold 3-6 flowers each.

While its main flowering period is summer, we have had this flowering all year round when kept in a frost free greenhouse.
