Leaves 2"-3",without spines, very dark green and elliptical or oval, giving this tree its name. Don't confuse the name with Ilex cornuta 'Rotunda', named for its round form.
More heat and shade tolerant than many Hollies, and reportedly will grow in alkaline soils.
