Based on Dutch research tagetes 'Ground Control' has the most potent nematicidal effect of all marigolds. Nematodes (Pratylenchus penetrans, P. neglectus, P. crenatus) have negative effect on crops of carrots, lettuce, endive, leek and strawberries. Also flowerbulbs like lilium, daffodil, gladiolus, hyacinth, iris and tulip can suffer problems of root nematodes.
Nematodes are most prevalent on sandy soil, on which tagetes 'Ground Control' grows particulary well.
