This plant has been hardy to zone 2 for me, surviving my worst winters. It is one of the first things to bloom in the spring, and is a very cheerful sight, inspiring me to clean up the rock garden. It seems to be happiest is sandy, rocky soil in full sun. It does go dormant later in the summer after going to seed.
