This is a cultivar by Peter van Steijn and was introduced in 2006.

We purchased it in 2007 from a local garden center and planted it in full sun. We mulched the base with about 1/2" of cedar bark mulch, and it seems to be doing quite well.

The light blue-ish lavender-violet flowers have ruffled petals around a large green 'heart' that is currently (mid-July 2007) opening to reveal dainty, white petals. The flowers are beautiful on their long, strong stems. The stems are able to withstand the occasional heavy gusts of wind, without breaking, which blow across the nearby lake.

We are not yet familiar with its seeding, or propagation, type. We will just watch and wait.

We have found it to be an almost mystical, magical plant as it opens itself to reveal more petals each day.
