The wrinkled, velvety foliage (similar to that of G. renardii) goes summer dormant shortly after flowering and reappears in the fall. Stays green in winter in England.

Seed is not freely set.

Native to shady habitats in Albania and southern Greece. Closely related to G. ibericum.
