I have not grown this plant. Calliandra calothyrsus is a synonym for Calliandra houstoniana var. calothyrsus. It may bloom all year in temperate areas if it receives enough moisture. Normally growing between 12 and 18 feet tall, under optimum growing conditions it can reach a height of 36 feet. The main difference between Calliandra houstoniana and Calliandra houstoniana var. calothyrsus is that the blooms of C. houstoniana open at about the same time; whereas, the blooms of C. houstoniana var. calothyrsus open from the bottom upward.
