A tropical American hardwood tree that grows in the the rain forests of the Amazon river and some of the Caribbean. Its use as lumber for decking is becoming popular in the U.S.

The wood is extremely hard, heavy, and dense, and does not float. It contains toxins that prevent decay causing micro-organisms from rotting the wood.

Other names for this tree and its lumber are Brazilian Redwood and Bullet wood
