Often described as "one of the best available forms" of an extremely variable species. This plant was originally named Cotyledon orbiculata var. oophylla by Dinter, but it has since been reduced to a local form only. The cultivar name 'Boegoeberg' commemorates the location where the plant was first found in the wild.
