I have not grown this plant. Natal Plum, Natal Creeper 'Horizontalis' (Carissa macrocarpa) is a low growing, dense and spreading cultivar that is suitable as a groundcover. It can become trailing if allowed to cascade over a wall. It is about an inch taller than 'Green Carpet' reaching a height of about 25 inches. Because its thick leathery leaves are not ripped by wind nor bothered by salt spray, it is very useful in coastal areas. Often, it is planted window boxes at seaside condominiums and hotels.

Caution: All parts of Natal plum are poisonous except for the ripe fruits. It is often noted that seeds within the fruits are poisonous.
