Looking much the same as the Beaumontia Grandiflora, differences are noticed on the side view of the flower. While the Grandiflora is long and trumpet shaped, the Murtonii is more of a wide bowl shape as noted in the side view photo. Aproximately three years for the vine to bloom, pretty much followed the same pattern as the Grandiflora. Using the known method of getting the Solandra Maxima vine to bloom by not watering the vine after Autumn begins, then in late fall or early winter when vine is near distress begin watering and feeding with fertilizer of high phosphorous. The Murtonii in theory is different in the respects that it is suppose to be a multiple bloomer through out the year, a theory not yet tested as April 2009 is the first set of blooms this vine has produced. The vine was planted in location 2006, and should be noted that the large vines I have planted Grandiflora, Murtonii and Solandra Maxima have been in locations like against a fence, partially under a deck or eve of the house to maintain greater control over watering which seems to have worked rather successfully. Spring has been the only time when regular watering on my part has occurred, otherwise it's left to it's own devices the rest of the year with overwatering seemingly a big cause of distress or failure of this vine in cultivation.
