Perennial from Western, Central and Southern Europe. Has erect stems with almost triangular, wrinkled, very downy leaves which are scented like sage. Bears spires of pale greenish yellow flowers. Spreads via rhizomes.

Flowers June to September.

Prefers a very well drained, neutral soil. Native of dry woodlands, sand banks, scrub, heath and scree. Good spreading plant for a dry wildflower garden.
