"Tart little fruits are about softball sized or slightly smaller, weighing to about 6 ounces. Smooth, occasionally netted bright yellow-orange skin contains the white flesh. The fruit is fragrant, tangy and moderately sweet. Original seed was preserved by W.R. Lorence, whose Minnesota grandmother, a century ago, made pies from a combination of this melon and apples.
