"Widely adapted crisphead lettuce, cabbage-like in shape and pale green to white in color. Balfour is a Salinas-type with a semi-upright base, nice rib and a strong frame. Though widely regarded as the nutritional poor-boy of the lettuce classes, nothing but an iceberg offers such a refreshingly watery crunch. And icebergs stay fresher, and keep longer, than most other lettuce varieties. Good bolt tolerance, resistance to downy mildew and to lettuce leaf aphids." High Mowing Seed
