This plant is easily raised from seed and can also be propagated by division. Can re-seed a little freely, so be cautious. Great for areas that are somewhat shady.

Positive Todd_Boland On Nov 30, 2004, Todd_Boland from St. John's, NL (Zone 5b) wrote:

This species is best used in a perennial border. It can vary from 2-3 feet depending on the fertility of the soil. It will produce an erect stem with a one-sided arrangement of fairly large deep violet-blue bells which have long hairs along their edges (something like the bearded bellflower, C, barbata). This species is suppose to be short-lived so allowing some seeds to fall might be advised. It is native to the Caucasus.

Neutral Baa On Oct 10, 2001, Baa wrote:

Perennial from Europe through to West Asia and North Afric.

Has nettle like, ovate, toothed, mid green, hairy leaves. Bears long spikes of tubular, blue to white flowers upto 1.5 inches long. Cutting back the flowers may encourage a 2nd flush.

Flowers late July to September.

Likes a dryish, neutral to alkaline, well drained, fertile soil in partial shade but will tolerate some sun.
