Arboreteum plant sale. It has thrived in my garden with benign neglect for years. In shade. The blooming period is short, however. |

I was captivated by its delicate charm. It was growing at the edge of woodland in what seemed to be acid soil. I obtained seeds last year, which germinated well and now have about thirty healthy plants in 4inch pots in ericaceous compost. |

Has ovate, coarsely toothed or lobed leaves and may be semi evergren in mild winters. Bears violet, 2 lipped flowers with yellow and purple spotted throats.
Flowers June-August.
Likes a well drained soil in full sun but it is only hardy down to 25F so mulch heavily if grown outside in frost prone areas.
Cut back flowered shoots to about 1 inch of old growth in Spring. |
