This is one of my favorite types of trees. I had one that was maybe 3' or 4' tall. The only problem is that a group of fire ants ate the root system of the tree and Killed it. I Hate those ants...

One of the favorites in Japanese gardens, as well as any garden that isn't too hot and sunny. Has red very lacy leaves and is slow growing. I find it is not very drought tolerant, and hard to make look nice in Southern California without watering it constantly and keeping it out of hot sun... but it can be done. Is a much easier grow in cooler climates (such as the pacific northwest).
