From your friends at Botanical Interests: Freckles is an heirloom romaine. The Austrians call it "forellenschuss" which translates as "trout, self-enclosing", indicating its speckled appearance. The red and green coloration of the leaves will add a creative twist to a traditional Caesar Salad. This variety has a good heat tolerance (rare for Romaines) and excellent flavor. Pick leaves at any stage or mature heads in 55 days.

Freckles is an attractive, red splotched semi-open Romaine lettuce. I like to grow it early in the Spring to harvest right at maturity, because it doesn't hold long in the garden. This variety definetly dislikes heat!
