There are numerous species of Bauhinia, some vines, some shrubs and some tall trees... but they all have a characteristic leaf shape in common- a bilobed oval leaf, sort of 'butterfly-shaped'. They tend to bloom earlier in the year, and then leaf out late spring. Not all lose their leaves, especially in warmer climates.
