The seeds contain a toxin that prevents against insect predation. Immature seedpods, raw or cooked, are used as a vegetable in many areas of the world, and the immature seed is sometimes used like shelled bean. The protein-rich mature seeds can be dried and stored for future use. They need to be thoroughly cooked before being eaten in order to destroy a toxic principle. We tend to err on the side of caution in PlantFiles, and the 'seed is poisonous' notation in the details above is to warn people to look further for more information before eating.

The rather bushy plants are covered by a blanket of white flowers, which makes this variety, together with its fresh medium green leaves, very attractive. The medium-dark green pods are 18 cm long and 20 mm wide.
