has grown and begun to flower well in quite a bit of shade for me = though the flowers appear quite dark striped paler, they are actually pink "splashed and striped with rose madder, carmine, and purple, and an occasional blazing scarlet splash on the inner surfaces" (GST) He goes on to remark on its elegant growth and glorious colours and warns that "only careful and selective pruning will prevent it from becoming an overcrowded mass"

At the moment I feel like that is a warning that I could have too much chocolate!!! a wonderful rose.
