This is an excellent performer here, flowering throughout the summer months provided that the old spikes are removed regularly. The rich purple flowers are bright enough to show up well form a distance and are carried in sizeable, dense spikes. Although reputed to be a warmth lover, it does seem to cope with UK's cool summer weather perfectly well. Full sun, plenty of moisture and a rich fertile compost keeps this plant looking at its best for many months.

Bears deep purple flowers.

Loves a well-drained soil in full sun. While it should be well watered it is best to allow them to dry out between each watering (just not for too long!). You may get a second flowering flush if you cut them back after an early flush and there is enough time left in the season.

They make good container plants as well as bedding and are often grown as annuals, unless you have space to bring them indoors when frost arrives.
