A cultivar of Allium schoenoprasum, common chives.

Has slim, cylindrical, hollow, light green leaves that have that wonderful mild onion scent when crushed or on a hot day. Bears pure white flowers borne in umbels.

Flowers May to June

Likes a well drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun.

The whole plant is smaller than the type species but can be used in much the same way for the kitchen. Always surprises me that it's not more widely grown, it's a beauty.

Garden collected seeds don't always produce white flowered plants, especially when they are grown in gardens with other chives.
