'Blue Lake' differs from the species in its season of bloom---it blooms in late spring/early summer, unlike the very late fall-blooming species. It is also shorter.

It does not appear to be a hybrid.

Aster tataricus 'Blue Lake' is protected by USPP 15775. Aster tataricus 'Blue Lake Blim' is a different cultivar, US PP17700 P3.
