I planted GoldMarie together with white Nemesia compact innocence in a hanging pot on my patio in zone 8b in May 2005. Although the compact innocence died in September 2005 (I replaced it with a new compact innocence which is still going strong as of March 2006), the bidens kept going strong and I have it still. It has a pleasant, sweet scent but one must lean close to discern it--it will not fill a garden with scent like Nemesia does. I give it regular deadheading to ensure continuous bloom--perhaps this is why I do not have the debris complaints given by 'Blackwater' above. I would highly recommend this plant to anyone who likes sweet smelling, robust yellow flowers. I would recommend this variety over Peter's gold carpet for hanging baskets because its longer stems cover the basket more completely.

I have had nothing but problems with this plant! It looks great, but it is worse than a weed. You can not plant them in hanging baskets because there is always the risk of it choking out the other plants. It needs constant upkeep because once the bloom goes to seed, the little pods cling to everything and are a pain to pick out of your clothing. They make a mess too and the fact that they are so bright doesn't help once the petals fall to the ground. It is a very hardy plant that will survive through pretty much everything, but I wouldn't recommend this one unless you are absolutely in love with this plant.
