Mountain Devil is an attractive shrub, covered in red flowers in the summer. It grows in mountainous areas of New South Wales in Australia.
The name Mountain Devil comes from the shape of the woody seed capsules, which can be seen as a devil's face with two sharp horns on his head. Two winged seeds are protected within each capsule and are easily extracted.
I have had a shrub growing in my garden for some 10 years and it flowers beautifully each year, having reached a height of about 1.5 metres. It did not set any seed at first, but now seems to set plenty of seed each year.
