This is another native Australian Clematis, which together with Clematis aristata grows commonly in Morwell National Park, here in Victoria, Australia. The two species are quite hard to tell apart, but glycinoides has shiny green leaves with hardly any teeth on the margins, whereas aristata has mat, darker green leaves with toothed margins. Another useful difference is that this species flowers about 3 to 4 weeks earlier each spring than aristata. This Clematis makes a wonderful show in the park each spring. There are masses of white flowers, sometimes sprawled across low shrubs, but often also climbing to a great height in the trees. One of the tracks in Morwell National Park is named Clematis Track after this species.
I have successfully grown these from seed for use in local revegetation projects, but despite intentions, have not yet established one in my garden. Seed is plentiful in December each year.
