Like other everlastings, the compact group of flower-heads is surrounded by stiff, brightly coloured (yellow) petal-like bracts, which retain their colour and texture much longer than petals do, leading to the name everlasting flowers. In this species, the coloured bracts are not as conspicuous as in other everlastings and the cluster of flower-heads is larger, and gives the head its button-like appearance. I have not attempted to propagate this species, but I believe it should grow readily from fresh seed. It is in cultivation in Australia and is recommended as a rockery palnt. |
