PlantFiles: Satin Everlasting
Helichrysum leucopsideum

This beautiful little everlasting flower is quite uncommon in Morwell National Park, where I photographed it. It is commonest in coastal regions, including Wilson's Promontory National Park (The Prom). Its name refers to the satiny texture of the white bracts that surround the flower-head. This plant flowers in the summer and like all everlastings, the flowers stay bright for a long time, because the petal-like bracts are much longer lasting that true petals.
This would make a lovely rockery plant, but we have so far had no success with propagation. Seed collected last year failed to germinate.
