Ultimate show plant with wildly large dissected leaves. Mine has about 12' of trunk and reaches up another 4' with stem and leaves into the full/part sun. The more water and fertilizer it gets the faster the growth. It will not branch young or low unless cut back.On it's own from what I have seen they can grow as much as 15' of trunk, before sending up very few side branches. They have reached as large as 20' of trunk in the bay area surviving lows of 28F with no protection. They seem to be pest free outdoors with the exception of deer and rodents who will eat, girdle, and kill small plants. They do fine in cool summer climates. Best if grown under the dappled shade of large canopy trees in hotter areas. Just a great, long lived Araliad. Try one...

Unique, dark green 'snowflake' foliage. Pattern seems to vary from plant to plant. I have found this to be a slow grower when small. This plant will become large over the years, so do not plant it in a confined area. Although it is not easy to find and can be expensive when you do, it is a great addition to any SoCal garden where a striking contrast plant is needed. Mine handled 28 degrees in a protected area so it is more hardy then I expected. This plant does have small spines at the leaf base.
