Common plant in woods and along fence rows, usually 4'- 6' tall, can form thickets. Also known as Texas Forsythia and Texas Elbow-bush. Flowers in early February. Leaves are soft grayish green appearing after the flowers. Female plants produce small fruits which turn blue when ripe and are an excellent food source for birds and small mammals.
Xeriscape consideration.
Specimens examined in NW Bell County.
