This is a common shrub in brazilian coastal areas. It can reach up to 5m tall, but usually is 1 to 3m tall in its natural habitat.

It has triangular, dark green, glossy opposite leaves. Tearing it apart, you can sense a characteristic smell. The flowers are solitary, but during blooming peaks (spring), they are abundant. They are white, 2cm round, with lots of stamens. The contrast between the dark foliage and white flowers is quite interesting.

The fruit is a red or dar red drupe than can be eaten, and has a strong taste that ressembles guava.

It lives on white sand, requiring high temperatures, regular watering, and full sun.
