Citronella nardus is the source of citronella oil, and can be mixed with vegetable oils for a homemade insect repellant.

I do not have Citronella nardus, aka Citronella Grass. It is stronly aromatic and decidedly more like insect repellant than lemongrass is. Mine suffered in a pot during the move to a larger garden last year. I finally got a spot ready for it this summer, and goodness, is it happy! The leaves bend about 2/3 of the way up their 3' length, lending it a graceful appearance and requiring me to move the daylilies planted near it farther away, ahem.

Now that I haven't killed this one, I'll find Lemongrass too!

My friend gave this to me saying that it needs an optimum level of watering. He said that it should not be over-watered or under-watered. I've been doing so reasonably well and it is doing good so far. I have begun to love this for its pleasing scent. It is said that the extracts are used as mosquito repellant.
