This species of grass-tree is found mainly in New South Wales and eastern Victoria, where it grows in wet heathy plains. It is true that it frequently does not have a 'trunk', but a few specimens are found with a trunk of up to 0.6 metres. We have grown some from seed and I have a seedling established in my garden, but I have many years to wait before I can hope to see flowers. My photographs which I will upload shortly show that plants with multiple flower stems are quite common, especially after a fire.

THis is another treeless grass tree from N Australia. This one has a nice habit and looks like a healthy, almost agave-like clump of stiff grass. It has a huge flower spike that gets dark brown as the seeds ripen on it. Never forms a stem/trunk.
