Merit is one of the older yellow hybrids from Asgrow. It does extremely well in the south east. Many folks favor it because it very easy to clean. One local supplier sells it as "silkless" corn. It has a larger ear than Golden Cross Bantam to which it is ofetn compared. It is not exceptionally sweet and in fact is reminiscent of the open pollinated yellows.
