I have not grown this plant which is a medium shrub, large shrub or small tree. Texas Snowbell, Texas Snowbells (Styrax platanifolius subsp. texanus) is an endemic native Texas plant that has been reduced to about 10 populations in Edwards, Real and Val Verde counties. It is listed as an endangered species. Texas snowbells typically can be found growing out of crevices on steep limestone cliff faces or bluffs or along streams and dry creek beds. In addition, it can be found growing in the dry gravels of streambeds or on thin soils overlying limestone ledges. The big, round leaves are light green above and siver-white and fuzzy underneath. The delicate white blooms hang upside down in clusters at the end of the branches The bloom buds form in March and open during the last 2 weeks of April. The fruit capsules which contain one or up to 3 seeds enlatge in late July and early August. They then split open in late August through September expelling their pea-sized seeds. The seeds are a shiny brown.
