Iochief is a 1951 introduction from The Iowa Agricutural Experiment Station. This is avigorus plant with excellent yields. It is a large late corn competitive with Golden Queen. It has two major drawbacks. The ear tends to grow out of the ends of the shuck making it very susceptible to insect and bird damage. The pericarp is much tougher than more modern hybrids. It is an Su so if you like the taste and texture of the older varieties, this one is a dependable producer.
