Royal Red will tolerate light frosts, but doesn't like hot weather. A good early Spring leaf lettuce, it is very similar in appearance to Red Sails, but with a bit more red color.

Royal Red Lettuce can be grown both in the fall and spring in zone 9. I grew it all winter and the cold never hurt it.(mild winters, never colder than 30F) Water it generously and shade it from hot summer sun. In the winter it can be planted in direct sunlight. Very tasty.
