Stunning wild orchid. Locally very abundant in certain areas - higher elevations with moist microclimates.

Enjoy it in the wild - do not pick the flowers or attempt to transplant! All wild orchids exist in symbiotic relationship with soil microorganisms and some other plants; impossible for most casual gardeners to reproduce proper conditions. Over-harvesting has endangered this species in many areas.

Grows in mixed conifer forests in deep humus, sometimes along roads, at low to mid- and into high elevations.

**This and all lady's-slippers need the association of soil fungi and should never be disturbed.**
