The edible green seed pods are very juicy and taste like snow peas. They were used as a vegetable by Native Americans and pioneers. The dried powdered root was applied to wounds to stop bleeding. This plant is now endangered in Illinois. Also called Buffalo Bean and Buffalo Plum.
