Average sized tree from the semi arid areas of northeast Brazil, from which it is extracted the "Juá", a bactericide substance often used in toothpastes.

It is an average sized tree, reaching up to 15 meters tall in wet areas, but in their original dry habitat, staying as a short tree, with an irregular trunk. It has cinnamom-like leaves distributed on sparcely spiny branches, and small, pale yellow flowers. The fruits are small, round and yellow, with a juicy pulp - which tastes like some apples - and one seed.

It likes full sun, high temperatures, and fertile soils. It tolerates long droughts, though it affects the tree´s growth, and goes well with regular watering. It is more often cultivated as medicinal, but it´s a pretty tree that can be used in landscaping as well.
