Attractive solitary species from New Guinea with large (10' long), drooping leaves with dark green leaflets and tall, thin trunk (up to 25' and trunk usually less then 1' in diameter). Trunk is ornamentally ringed with cream-colored leaf scars. New leaves are reddish to maroon and quite striking. Most Calyptocalyx are understory clustering palms so this is a bit unusual for the species. Like all Calyptocalyx, this species is too hopelessly tropical to be grown in southern California.
