Shiny Swamp-mat is a mat-forming plant of wet sites, especially salt-marshes. It has an interesting distribution, being found naturally in South-eastern Australia, New Zealand and Chile, thus being one of the plants that illustrate the Gondwanaland link between South America, Australia and New Zealand. Here in Australia, it is a common plant of saltmarshes around the coast of Tasmania and Victoria, but is also found inland in wet sites near lakes and streams.
